Rosalynn - Forest Mandala

After doing the character as a pencil sketch, it was scanned into the computer, then redrawn and colored in Flash.

The forest background is from a stock photo by TigerDRena.

The mandala design was via the internet.


A photoshop composition designed to disguise the fact that my drawing is so much more generic and uninteresting than the source material.

This is the kind of thing that happens when a manga gets adapted into an anime; as detailed and wonderful as the original line art may be, the character designs end up getting turned into something much more generic since they have to be drawn over and over again in animation cells.

So, to put this work into some kind of context, this is kinda what would happen if Rosalynn ended up getting animated by DiC in one of those faux-anime cartoons from France.

At this point, I'm going to have to learn some proper shading techniques or give up on it entirely and accept it as part of my drawing style.

Whatever else I managed to do or fail to do in this drawing, I will say that I like her navel.
